Tailfeather Dance Stroll





The Tailfeather is one of the many strolls I have come across while dancing and researching this amazing past time.

This particular stroll is normally performed to the song "shake a tail feather" from the Blues Brothers film.
I hope you will be able to follow the instructions - have a go and see what you make of it.

For the Introduction:- 2 bars during which you stand still facing the front and look serious, as if you are a bouncer standing outside a nightclub.

The serious section Do 2 clicks with right hand, turning out the right foot and tapping your toe. (slow count)

Do 2 clicks with left hand, turning out the left foot and tapping your toe. (slow count)

Do 2 clicks with right hand, turning out the right foot and tapping your toe. (slow count)

Do 2 more right taps but to a fast rhythm.

Run on the spot fast - arm out 'Tommy Cooper' style.

Keep going - nearly there ----

Scoops sequence ,Do 2 scoops forward and right (R together R, touch left)

Do 2 scoops forward and left (L together L, touch right)

slow fish tail back, starting with right foot (clap after each step)

Repeat scoops and fishtails.

Twist walk forward for 4 starting on R, kick R cross and turn 180 to the left.

Twist walk forward for 4 (facing the back) starting on R, kick R cross and turn 180 to left.

Mess around for bar and half.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah section. reach for the floor and slowly raise your arms as the music goes "aaaaaaah".

60s style twist.

Lunge forward on your R leg and shimmy.

Jump feet together then out with arm out in V on 'Ba - by'.

Run on the spot fast - arm out 'Tommy Cooper' style.





Loop the loop. Circle arms to R, then to L on “Loop-de-loop”

Point R and 3 foot taps to R.

Circle arms to L, then to R on “Loop-de-la”.

Shake a tail feather

clap and jump around to left, bend over hands behind bum and shake tail feather.

clap and jump around to left, bend over, hands behind bum and shake tail feather (now facing front)

repeat shake tail feather but walk towards back then towards forward

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah section. Loop the loop.

Shake a tail feather.

Go mad section. reach for the floor and slowly raise arms (aaaaaaaaaah)

Freestyle twisting (4 x 8 counts)

Actions sequence. Twist - 60s twist.

Fly - flap arms, starting up then down.

Swim - front crawl. (starts R)

Bird - flap arms. (more like the funky chicken!)

Duck - like climbing a rope. (4 arms, starts R)

Monkey - Double speed Duck.

Wa toosi - turn to side (right first) and cross open hands.

Froo - (point at toes with both hands, starts R).

Mash potato - fists on top of each other.

Boog-a-loo (Hitching, starts R).

Boney Marony (sixties back combing of hair x 4, starts right.) Twist - same old.

Final sequence. Reach for the floor and slowly raise arms. (aaaaaaaaaah)

“Arrrrrrhhhhh” – Down and up.

Twist - same old.

Nail left foot to floor - shuffle around to left whilst shimmying.



Those are quite hard instructions to follow - but take a look at the video and maybe do it in pieces, break it down until you've perfected it.

It's well worth it in the end.
